Endodontic Retreatment
Your teeth that have undergone endodontic treatment can last just as long as your other natural teeth, as long as they are properly cared for. However, there is a possibility that a treated tooth may not heal or may continue to cause pain. In some cases, this pain may occur months or even years after the initial treatment. If this happens, it may be necessary for The Dental Specialty Center to perform Endodontic Retreatment.
Improper healing may be caused by:
- Untreated curved or narrow canals.
- Undetected complicated canals.
- Delayed placement of crown or restoration.
- Inadequate crown or restoration to prevent saliva contamination.
In some cases, new problems can influence a tooth that was successfully treated:
- Exposure to a root canal-filling material due to new decay can lead to infection.
- The tooth can be vulnerable to new infection if there is a cracked or loose filling or crown.
After choosing retreatment as the solution for your problem, the doctors will reopen your tooth to reach the material filling the root canal. They will remove this restorative material to gain access to the root canal. Next, the doctors will thoroughly clean your canals and carefully inspect the inside of the troublesome tooth. Once cleaned, they will fill and seal the canals and temporarily fill the tooth.
